My journey into the world of childbirth support has started with a book, Immaculate Deception: A New Look at Women and Childbirth by Suzanne Arms. This book was written in 1975, and described what was done routinely to birthing women in hospitals. Until I read this book, I, like most people, believed that hospitals are the best, safest places for giving birth. I believed that once a woman is pregnant, she should just go to a doctor and do everything she or he says, and that's all that is needed for a good outcome. Since that time, I have sought out many more books and articles on the subject of pregnancy and birth, written by doctors, nurses and childbirth enthusiats. I have taken classes and spent time talking to various childbirth professionals. I have heard and read many birth stories and gone to births. I have developed quite a collection of information and resources on the subjects of pregnancy, birth, new babies and new mothers. This page is an attempt to share what I know. |
